Blue Flags

“Golden” beaches

The beaches of Messinia comprise one of the most important attractions for its visitors. Voidokilia, Divari, the beaches of Stoupa and Kardamili are only but a few examples of the wonderful seashores that are uniquely beautiful.

The 2016 Blue Flag list includes five beaches in Messinia. Those are: East Kalamata/ Anastasi (bus station), East Kalamata/  End of Navarinou (Navarinou Road : Kalamata’s sea front road), Mikri Mantineia, Almyros and Verga in the Municipality of Kalamata, Bouka in the Municipality of Messini.

In 2015 five beaches were awarded the Blue Flag prize and specifically these were: Mikri Mantineia and East Kalamata/ Anastasi in the Municipality of Kalamata, Bouka in the Municipality of Messini and the beaches of Ai Lagoudis and Kalo Nero in the Municipality of Trifilia.

The Blue Flag is a certification by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) that a beach, marina or sustainable boating tourism operator meets its stringent standards. Blue Flag criteria include standards for water quality, safety, environmental education and information, the provision of services and general environmental management criteria.
