The surfers meeting point
Lagouvardos beach (Krystalopigi) nestles in a beautiful crescent shaped long and wide bay set against a background of pine trees, tamarisks (salt cedar) and bushes.
The “Kokkina Patera” canyon ends up on Lagouvardos beach. The river which flows through the canyon is created by the union of three other rivers at a point near the beach.
Lagouvardos beach is a lovely west-facing suitable for lots of fun activities from building sand castles to beach volleyball, beach rackets, great for swimming and lately becoming the hot spot for surfing and sup (in the designated zone).
The waves enthusiasts discover their own paradise, Lagouvardos creates waves ideal for the introductory level of surfing.
The surf school on the beach offers individual and group surf lessons for novice or intermediate surfer.
Begging of August a SUP tournament is organized and attracts many people.
The beach is well organized with three canteens serving, cold coffees, beverages, cocktails and freshly made finger food. There are sunbeds and umbrellas available, as changing cabins and showers.
On the full moon nights beach parties generously offer magnificent summer memories.
Viewing areas with free car parking are located on restricted areas along the shore, on the busy months convenient parking by the side of the main road.
The nearest village about 3km, called Marathopolis or Marathos (as locals used to say it). This fishing village has several small scaled guest houses and plenty of gastronomical choices, famous for its sea food specialties. The islet of Proti, the ‘crocodile’ shaped island, creates the view from Marathopolis outstanding. As a west faced location, the sun sets are magnificent.
In Marathopolis is held the ‘Sardine Festival’ every August. Guests can taste sardines, salads and celebrate with traditional music and dancing.
Parking and toilets might be an issue.
In case you keen on jogging, there is a flat and well-shaped dirt road starting from south part of the beach (parking area) that connects Lagouvardos beach with Marathopolis, along the coastline (approx. 7 km the round route).
