The pearls of Messinia

The most developed towns and villages of Messinia are located in the coastal areas of the prefecture. Kyparissia, Pylos, Methoni, Finikounda, Koroni, Agios Andreas, Petalidi, Kalamata, Kardamili, Stoupa are the areas that monopolize the interest of the visitors.

Smallish fish villages welcome you

In Messinia there are equally majestic locations that were and still are smallish fish villages that have been loved and become utterly popular with the visitors. Agia Kyriaki is a very calm and quiet place with its small taverns and its old unused raisin warehouses which are its trademark, Marathopoli or Marathos that is opposite the smallish island Proti, Petrohori which lies next to Palaiokastro and very close to the amazing beaches of Voidokilia, Petrohori and Romanou or Gialova. Gialova has been transformed from a small fish village to top touristic destination with extremely vivid nightlife!

The mystical Messinian Mani

The visitor will also be amazed by the beauty of coastal villages lying on the opposite side of the sea, in the Messinian Mani. Some of them are Agios Nickolaos with its classical houses and quaint narrow cobblestoned streets or Agios Dimitrios where Paris is said to have anchored his ships in order to take Helen with him to Troy. Among the coastal settlements that stand out in the Messinian gulf one can distinguish Avia, the beautiful Akrogiali and Kitries with its wonderful beaches.
