The photographer’s joy

The routes in Messinia do not only lead to idyllic and untouched from time natural landscapes but also to towns and villages of supreme beauty. Beauty that one only meets in the historical, quaint Pylos, which stares calmly at the natural port of Sfaktiria, where the naval battle of Navarino took place, in the seaside town of Methoni with the one and only uniquely preserved Venetian castle, in the amphitheatrical Koroni with its two-storeyed mansions and narrow backstreets, in the “touristic” resorts of Finikounda and Petalidi or Messini, known as the “Island”, where the one of a kind archaeological sites take you back in time and history.

Expect the unexpected

From Kalamata the capital of Messinia and Gialova which is rapidly developed touristically – both places full of life! – up to majestic Kardamili and Stoupa in Messinian Mani where “Alexis Zorbas” by Nickos Kazantzakis was inspired and written. From the picturesque fish village of Agios Nickolaos to Agios Nikonas (last halt before Laconia) up to Filiatra with the well known Eiffel Tower miniature and Kiparissia with its well preserved traditional settlement of Ano Polis and its cobblestoned narrow streets. Messinia is a destination full of surprises.

The untouched beauty

There are more “hidden” beauties waiting for you to discover. A walk in central and mountainous Messinia to destinations almost unknown to quite a lot of people, away from the sea, where pretty and quaint little villages are situated, surrounded by lush vegetation and endless running fresh water constitute the very first step for exploration…
